For this issue, our feature was a “Unemployment Survival Guide” emphasizing how hard the battle can be to collect your benefits for the unemployed from the perspective of a unemployed person. Sara Tekula does a great job keeping it both informative and humorous, so to go along with the style of writing I felt like I needed something equally as humorous, but informative. The result is a great illustration from South American illustrator Ramiro Alonso. You can check out more of his work here, but it definitely helps if you can speak Spanish (which I can’t).
All-in-all, I think the cover and inside spread turned out great—and looks very reminiscent of some Newsweek or Time covers I’ve seen in the past (although I’m by no means putting myself in the same category as some of those art and creative directors).
Hope you all enjoy!

Aloha and thanks for the nice comment about my article. It’s my first cover story, so I’m really stoked to have such wonderful illustration and layout. It’s better than I imagined when I was writing it!
