For my first “Halloween Issue” as part of the MauiTime crew, I really wanted to push the boundaries and do something a bit unexpected. The feature was about “The Seven Scariest County & State Elected Officials,” and our Publisher Tommy Russo had a great idea to really go after our local Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares. Tommy had heard about an illustrator—Len Peralta—of MonsterbyMail.com. Len is an amazing illustrator who specializes in charactures and monsters based out of Cleveland, Ohio. After a few quick attempts to illustrate this myself, I quickly realized that I better leave this to a pro—and reached out to Len. Few hours later I had an amazing illustration, and with a little type and masthead treatment, I think the result is one of the best “Halloween” covers I’ve personally seen from an alternative weekly, and hopefully you’ll agree.

Um, yeah…agreed. This is the most interesting Halloween cover I’ve seen. Period.
