Mates of State & The Black Kids
Well, like many artists before me—we reserve the right to change our mind on a design and scrap the whole thing. With this upcoming Mates of State/The Black Kids show—I did just that. After I finished and started looking back at the design—It just wasn’t doing anything for me. Especially since I felt it didn’t relate to the music of either group (Although, technically neither do guitar-playing octopus). So, alas I decided to start from scratch. It needed something more “organic,” something a bit more “freehand” and real. I came up with this idea for the octopus wearing a cowboy hat. Don’t ask me how these things happen—they just do. Added a guitar for effect—and some custom font treatment up top and “Wa-La!”
The double-poster I think will also work really well considering this show will be a double-headliner. This way people can either buy one or the other—or both for a discounted price. Gives the venue a chance to make a little extra coin—and looks great for the customer. I’ll keep you posted on how this goes—wish me luck!
