This week we had a great feature by former staff reporter Kate Bradshaw, whom was reporting from Florida on the Gulf Coast oil tragedy. We didn’t really have the budget or resources to get good photography for the cover this week, so I figured it’d be a good opportunity to blast some illustration. I decided to go with a play off the famous 100+ year-old Sherwin Williams “Cover the Earth” paint logo. I thought that with the right modifications and color scheme it could make for a really visually impacting cover. You’ll also notice I had to do a little jab at BP (British Petroleum) by including a grayed-out version of their logo as well. Overall, I think this is a strong cover for the subject matter—and shouldn’t have much problem grabbing attention and flying off racks. Hope you enjoy!
