This was one of those weeks in which I really had no idea what direction to go, and what I was going to do. Movie stock art is so cliché and over-used, and honestly I just don’t like it. So after hooking up with the people from the Maui Film Festival, I came across this great outdoor night shot from the event last year—and as soon as I saw I knew I was in luck. The photo by Randy Jay Braun gave me the perfect feel for what makes this event so special in comparisons to others: the outdoor aspect. The starry sky in the original was pretty cut off, so after a little bit of photoshop work extending the sky, and a bit of clever typography I think the end result is one of the better covers I’ve done in recent weeks.
